Departments

Dorothy Felix: Department Head

After graduating from VVHS in 1999, I received my teaching credential from UCR in 2004 and have been teaching English in this district ever since. I currently teach English II and English IV.

English Department

The English department consists of eighteen highly motivated teachers who work daily to improve student achievement.  We have implemented a Professional Learning Community and a content coach to help ensure every student’s success.

Michael Martinez:  Department Head

obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from California State University San Bernardino.  Michael has taught at Victor Valley High School for 7 years and teaches regular U.S. History and the U.S. AP History classes.  Michael is an Administrative Designee for Victor Valley High School and helped to restart the Victor Valley Swim Team.

Social Science Department

has some of the best teachers and strives to increase student achievement.  Overall test scores have risen between 9% and 15% in the different subjects taught within the past couple of years.  Many of the courses offered are World History, European History AP, U.S. History and U.S. History AP, Sociology, Psychology, U.S. Government, U.S. Government AP, Economics, and Economics AP.

Steve Lang: Math Department

The VVHS Math Department is comprised of 14 regular education math teachers. We offer courses in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Integrated Math (a mix of Alg. 1 and Geom.), Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry all of which meet the California state standards and also meet the A-G requirement for the California Universities. Further we offer 3 AP courses that have been approved for credit from the AP College Board: Calculus for AB and BC courses as well as for Statistics.  For further Math credit for seniors only, we offer a Consumer Math course. Remedial classes are also offered for help in passing the California High Exit Exam (CAHSEE) for 11th and 12th graders who were not successful in previous attempts. Finally many of us offer Math Tutoring after school through Title 1 and Assets Funding. We believe a solid foundation in mathematics is critical especially now in the 21st century as many of the careers our students will have may not even exist right now. We utilize technology widely and there exist several additional resources online for many of our students. Several teachers have undergone extensive training in looking at data from District Interim exams as well as the CSTs and collaborating with math teachers from other schools in Professional Learning Communities. We are all driven to push our students to excellence for future education and careers. To that end we strive.

Jennifer Nocera: Department Head

Jennifer Nocera is a proud graduate of the University of Iowa. Upon graduating from the U of I, she continued her education at Cal State San Bernardino. Jennifer has been teaching at Victor Valley High School for sixteen years. Jennifer currently teaches AP English for the ACE Academy and theatre classes. Jennifer also facilitates and directs all theatrical productions produced by Victor Valley High School.

Physical Education

Marlene Kaiser Department Head

Marlene Kaiser is truly a "seasoned veteran". I have taught Physical Education at Victor Valley High School for the past 30 years, and taught 5 years in Wisconsin before relocating to the High Desert. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor of science degree and from Azusa Pacific University with a masters in administration. I have coached a variety of sports at VVHS and truly enjoyed my interaction with my student athletes. I currently teach advanced individualized sports activities in the Physical Education Department. I love introducing my students to new activities with an emphasis on lifetime sports. Hopefully, they will continue to be active for the rest of their lives.

Physical Education

The VVHS Physical Education Department has two tiers to it's curriculum. We have beginning "core" activities which all Freshmen students participate in and than we have our "advanced" activities for our upper classmen. At the advanced level, students have a choice of activities so that they can find sports which suit them and their skill levels. Both levels participate in state mandated Physical Fitness Testing twice a year. Our students do very well on the battery of 6 state fitness tests but we are always looking to improve on our scores.

Science

George Wallace Department Head:

I am the current chair of the Science department here at Victor Valley High. I am an alumni of both Chico State University and Cal State San Bernardino and have lived in the Victor Valley area for most of my adult life.  I have been teaching here at Victor for the last 24 years and I can honestly say I still look forward to coming to work each day.  Victor High School has a unique history and permanence about it that is very attractive, that's probably why there are so many alumni that return to teach and give back to the community.
